After another relatively easy day with a mixture of sun, clouds, consistent wind, and gentle swells, minor boat repairs were made to the compass light and forward hatch. The crew rested peacefully after finding the source of an unnatural scent: Ulf’s heelless sock was discovered after a careful search. The sock was laid to rest at sea. Days like today allow for reflection with thoughts rolling with the wind and the waves. Peter was back at it in the galley preparing our pallets for the fine French cuisine to come, as we enjoy a wonderful meal of duck confit and lentils. Peter not only cooks for the fine crew of TIOGA, but has also shared his cooking with the 14th Dali Lama of Tibet, a peaceful man with a simple diet.
Peter shared a quotes with the crew, that we share with you. When asked what surprised him most about humanity ?, the Dali Lama answered: “Man. Because he sacrifices health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived”
